Kentucky Chapter American Academy of Pediatrics
Dedicated to the health and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
Children’s Advocacy Day at the Capitol is an opportunity to show legislators that Kentucky pediatricians care about its children and youth. KY Chapter of the AAP members attend this day long event at the Capital. Our goal is to speak with as many legislators as possible and to encourage them to support bills that will improve children’s health in the Commonwealth.
The day-long event begins with a rally for children’s issues at the Capitol rotunda and continues with scheduled times to speak with legislators and meet people from across the state who share a commitment to children.
The goal of the Policy Lab is to help pediatricians reframe traditional gun violence prevention arguments to that of gun safety messaging, supported by economic data. The data will be used for persuasive purposes with the goal of reducing firearm violence in the Commonwealth through the adoption of a mandatory secure storage policy. Learning modules will be the cornerstone of advocacy training offered to all KY AAP members and shared with Kentucky grassroots advocacy organizations. Supplemental educational resources will also be posted in the form of policy briefs to support advocacy activities.
