Brief History of the Kentucky Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics

1987: Incorporated as “Kentucky Pediatric Society, Inc.” Initial registered agent is Dr. Timothy D. Costich. Initial Board of Directors: Don Cantley (President), Ronald Collier, Timothy Costich (Vice President), Keith Coverdale, Ross Halbleib (Secretary/Treasurer), Harold Harrison, Gregory Johnson, and Danny Jo Strunk. Applied for exempt status, 501(a) (6) under IRS code, 249 paid members

1991: 402 members in good standing

1993: Created first Directory of Kentucky Pediatricians

1994: Hired first part-time member Executive Director – Dr. Charles Taylor, Established Career Day Event for Pediatric Residents, Shakertown

1996: Hired non member part-time Executive Director

1999: Recognition of Dr. Don Cantley AAP National CATCH Hall of Fame

2004: Recruitment of full-time Executive Director, 572 members

2006: Established a KPS Foundation as 501 (C) 3, Established Annual KY AAP Continuing Medical Education Meeting, Office Based Pediatrics, In memory of Dr. Don Cantley, the Chapter developed a new community service award to a physician at the annual CME meeting

2008: Principal office location changed from 1491 Twilight Trail, Frankfort, KY. to 420 Capital Avenue, Frankfort, KY. Name officially changed from Kentucky Pediatric Society to Kentucky Chapter of the AAP

2009: Roll out of group purchasing program partnership with Amerinet

2010: Established partnership with Mag Mutual

2012: Dr. Eric Bosley, President announces Chapter wins the 2012 AAP’s Outstanding Large Chapter award

2014: KY AAP Celebrates 20^th Anniversary, Career Day Event for Pediatric Residents

2016: KY AAP Celebrates 10^th Year Annual Meeting Anniversary

2017: 950 members, Chapter receives District IV, AAP’s Outstanding Large Chapter Award

2018: Chapter receives District IV, AAP’s Outstanding Large Chapter Award

2019: Chapter receives District IV, AAP’s Outstanding Large Chapter Award 

2020: Chapter receives District IV, AAP’s Outstanding Large Chapter Award
